  I turn mine down while I'm at work, and at night. I actually got a programmable thermostat so it does it automatically, and I can override it if I want, like if I'm off work and want it warmer. Yes, it saves a lot of money. You can also close off any rooms that you're not using much - don't let them get too cold if there are water pipes going through them. Partially or fully close down the heating vents in those rooms. Open the drapes or blinds on any window when the sun is shining in it. Close the drapes when it's cloudy or at night, to help keep the heat in. Insulate your windows with a kit from the hardware store. Seal any places where cold air might be getting in - around door frames, window frames, baseboards, etc. Wear an extra layer of clothes and/or a wool sweater so you can turn the temp down another couple degrees and still be comfortable. Moving around keeps you warm, too, so keep active, doing housework or exercising.
