What do i need to know and get to start a little aquaponic garden?

i am new to this. i barely know anything about aquaponics. what do i need to know to make a successful little aquaponic garden? all i know is that the fish and plants work together, and that is has to be perfectly balanced. also, it their is to much of i think ammonia, it will kill your fish. so what do i need to know to start a successful little aquaponic garden in my backyard. also, what kind of fish? and how many of those fish in the tank? is the ratio of fish per amount of water the same for all kinds of fish? best answer gets 10 points!
