What causes loose watery smelly stools?

What causes the copper color in the twists of antique wrought iron pieces like ice cream parlor stools?

  • Someone was refurbishing antique ice cream parlor stools made of twisted wrought iron and noticed a copper color in the twists. My father asked me to look this up but I have been unable to find an answer. He believes it is has something to do with a flux used in the forging process. If that is the case what flux would cause this? If thats not the case what else would it be?

  • Answer:

are you sure it isn't just rust? Flux would only be used if parts are welded together (fusing two different pieces of iron), not for twisting. Flux is a kind of glass and can be yellowish, but I haven't seen it copper. Though I can't really say what kinds of flux used in the past would look like. There is also the possibility of some colored iron oxides forming, but I doubt they would persist for a long time like for antique pieces. Depends how it looks like some actual copper might have been used for decorative purposes. Another option is that brazing was used, but brazing does look more yellow like brass, not red like copper. I guess it would help to have a picture to know what exactly you are talking about, but the above are the options I can think of without seeing it.
