How to get rid of mice in the house????
-
The area where I live has a problem with mice. I have used all kinds of traps and always catch some, but it seems like one gone, next in. Now we even hear them inside the walls and ceiling which is starting to freak me out. How can I get rid of them for good? The only thing I havent tried is poison. They go into all cracks and I am wondering if they die somewhere in the house and I cant get to it to discard them, isnt my house going to smell horribly? And will it get rid of them for good anyway? PLEASE HELP!!

Old fashison spring mouse traps work the best. Just wear rubber golves and place the dead mouse in a sealable/"tie-able" plastic bag. [This is best for health reasons of anyone who handle the trash at anytime.] The best bait is oatmeal flakes in peanut butter. I grew up in a rural area and a suburb now. Keep your trash cans outside your house if you can. Keep your lawn mowed and clean any accumulation of debris. The mice will take up residence outside in those areas and come into the house just for food. We also had an outdoor only cat (we lived in the south). We only fed her table meat scraps. The cat's natural instinct to hunt and eat small "critters" will kick in. She was a great "mouser". Her "depots" in the yard is another deterant. We never had problems with mice, gophers, moles, possiums, etc.

The first thing you need to do is find the source to where these unwelcomed guests are coming in from. (ie behind the stove or anyothther small crack or opening) Mice have no back bone so they are able to squeeze into the tiniest spots. One you have that figured out. Go to the local hardware stoor and buy steelwool. Stuff the hole or the crevice with the steelwool. Mice can't knaw through it.... I wouldn't go with the poisen only because I know someone who went that rout and the mouse ended up dying inside a main wall of her home. She had to have the entire wall knocked down and rebuilt...Very costly and time consuming and messy... Hope this helps and good luck.

go to the humane society and find a skinny cat, take him home and don't feed it.

I used poison once and the smell was horrible from the decaying bodies in the walls. Traps are the best. The best trap I heard of was from a friend of mine. He only used a bucket of water. He put it in his garage and the mice would climb in for water to drink but would drown because they couldn't get out. Horrible, but it worked for him. Me? I would rather get a good mouser cat and let him loose in the attic

Glue traps are the best method to trap rats and mice. I found detailed information at http://www.pests.in

I think today's mouse poison is made so that the dead mouse just dies without leaving a smell. One caution though . . if you have pets, make sure they don't mess with a dead rodent. If all else fails, get a cat.

I live in north east Texas and have farm. I have a feed building and mice was constantly getting into my feed until havok came out. It is a pellet in a small pouch and very inexpensive. I use it in my home behind my dishes and washer and dryer. It drys the mice when they die and there is no smell. You will find dead mice but they will not stink. You will need havok when you start seeing mice running again. You can buy havok at any feed store.

traps with cheese only = catch them the very 1st night. Nothing else is recommended as it will Not Work = will not. Poison and it dies in the wall and you have an awful stink for a month so bad you can't eat. If you have a major infestation like you describe, lots and lots of traps. And I mean the traps that spring and kill them. On the farm we might have as many as 8 traps set in the kitchen and on the enclosed back porch at one time. Set the traps anywhere the mice would travel for water or food. Under sinks in lower kitchen cabinets under furniture in kitchen and bath and on kitchen counter top. Check for the "poop" trails as that leads you to trap locations.
Mice and rats are scared of the scent of a cat and instinct tells them to get as far away from it as possible. Get a cat and don't overfeed it on supermarket cat food!

Get a cat - Mice can 'smell' cat (and vice versa), and will vacate the premises, pronto!!! Ecologically sound, also. . .
