How to get rid of house ants?

How can I get rid of these annoying ants in my house?

  • We just moved in this house and it is overrun with ants. According to the exterminator there are fire ants, carpenter ants and argentine ants. They keep getting into things that aren't even food, such as our clothes, shoes, toys, etc. My daughter can't even sleep in her own bedroom because they are so bad in there and in the spare bedroom. Can somebody please tell me how to get rid of these things and keep them out?? An exterminator has treated the house and outside it twice, but I haven't seen a bit of difference. They are a major pest control company too! I have used Raid and similar products inside, they only kill the ones they come in contact with and unfortunately those sprays choke me and I can't breathe. I don't have any carpet in the house at all so the floor gets swept daily. All food is kept sealed up really well to keep them out of it. So far they haven't gotten into any of our food. I did a good job there. Someone please help me.

  • Answer:

They can not stand baby powder. This will make the fire ants leave. The other ants might leave. or go around the powder. Ants can not stand lemons. MaltOmeal, grits or cornmeal will kill them. Mopping with vinegar and water will help. If you can find their nests or trails out side, you can put the cereal around their holes. It will take some time for them to take this down their holes. Fire ants have nests. And make trails. Argentine ants have nests close to moisture. I think wood ants live where ever. They might be in the walls. Putting the cereal along the base boards will do. The cereal should kill them. Boric acid powder, made to kill roaches, from hardware stores, will work.

I just moved to a tropical country and the ants here are terrible. I have heard that you can mix boric acid with honey and put it out for them to eat. They take it back to the queen and it kills her. I'm going to try it myself as soon as I can find the boric acid.

I heard on TV that you can mix grape jelly with borac acid and they will carry it back to their nest and it will kill the queen thus killing the colony. I dont know what the ratio of jelly to acid is thow so you will just have to experiment with that
