Are carpet beetles harmful to human health?

Carpet beetles, boric acid. Help?

  • Hi. SO we got carpet beetles at my house, they are now basically just in my room now. My room is messy with clothes covering the whole floor. Now I heard that boric acid powder kills these beetles, so I bought some and, after figuring I don't mind if anything in there gets ruined (although they may not), sprinkled/POURED it on everything. I used a broom and made sure the powder sifted through everything. Now, my question is, how long should I wait before it's safe to assume they're dead? They're was never a TON of them, I don't think.. but enough to make me highly uncomfortable..

  • Answer:

30 minutes was long enough. Vacuuming a lot will pick up the bugs. The fuzzy larvae might be along the baseboards.

boric acid is a slow acting stomach poison, any insects it contacts will die within a number of days, weeks to take care of a problem population... chances are though you placing out boric acid where you did will do nothing for your problem, they probably are originating on wool clothing in the closet or between your mattress and bed springs.
