they are a type of ladybug..they are a species from Asia called the Asian Multi-colored Ladybug....they actually are a better aphid eater than our native ladybugs, just very invasive compared to the native species...the way to tell the difference is there will be a "M" design (W depending on how you look at it) on the area behind the head...sometimes it is very distinct other times the design is broken up...one other difference is they will bite (nip) you when they crawl on you
