What are the basics of feng shui?

Feng Shui and Buying New Home?

  • I am about to purchase either a condo or townhouse and I would like to know what basics of Feng Shui I should follow in choosing the right property. Any help would be appreciated

  • Answer:

Start with the outside. You should not see cemeteries, hospitals, police/firestations, schools/colleges/universities and houses of worship such as churches/mosques/temples. You should see your door from the street. There shouldn't be any blockages in front of your door like a light post, tree or column. The path to your door should meander and not be straight. Next take one step inside and see if you have these feng shui taboos. Stairs right in front of you, Do you see a toilet, stove or master bedroom or back door? Are there any poison arrows aimed at you here? Some are easy to cure but some are large and architectural and not easy to cure. Check the kitchen for fire/water clashes. Your stove (fire) shouldn't be next to or directly infront of the frige or sink or dishwasher (water). The next is more complicated but will help you work with your personal energy instead of against it. If you can use a compass and know your good and bad directions. These directions are based on your year of birth. There is a special formula but you can just check your bday here at this site. http://www.dragon-gate.com/resources/fengshuitools/KuaCalculator/index.asp See if your front door faces a good direction, your stove should also face a good direction, your bathroom should be in a bad direction. Your bedroom should be one that it is possible for you to sleep in your good direction. You can even check the horoscope of your actual dwelling but that gets too complicated to discuss here, but I would avoid period 7 homes since most are not auspicous, that would be any dwelling built between feb 1984 and feb 2004. There are a few good ones but you need a very accurate compass reading to find them. Start of your move in an auspicous way by picking a good day, not uttering any curse or negative words, cleansing any old energy, turn on your appliances and let your water run for a few minutes. Open the windows. Cook your first meal in the home and don't share it outside the family the first night. Many wishes of good chi for your new home!
