What Is The Best Food To Feed My Carnivorous Plant?

What do I feed fresh cut roses? Is there an alternative to commercial plant food?

  • Hi, I recieved a bouquet of 24 fresh cut roses. I'm confused what I can feed them. I looked around the net and it's suggested that I put bit of sugar and bit of bleach (to kill bacteria).....I'm concerned about the BLEACH part...can I use lemon instead, to kill the bacteria? I also heard of GLYCERINE .... isn't that soap?? What else can I use around the house? Thank u for your answers!

    If you don't want to use bleach, just change the water every day, and you should be fine. Feeding the roses a little bit of sugar is supposed to help. Or, you could just hang them upside down, and let them dry. Then you'll have dried roses which will last well into next spring. With 24 roses, what you could also do is put six roses in plain water, six roses in just sugar water, six roses in lemon and sugar water, and six roses in bleach and sugar water. That way, you'll know what works best, and your roses will look very bountiful and gorgeous! (Or you can enjoy them in four different rooms.) Have fun with it! 10% Sprite or 7-UP in water, about 1/4 tsp chlorox in water will keep them fresh as long as possible. Good luck, oh and cut stems UNDER water to avoid air lock in stems while cutting.

Mouth wash in the water ( I use a cap full) will help preserve fresh cut flowers. We did it all summer w/ our flowers from the garden.. GL

You can change the water every day and cut the stems at an angle each time. I never saw any better results, with anything you might add to the water. They're dead.
