How do I get rid of or minimize the spiders in my house?

  • I have noticed that there are a lot of spiders in my house, especially the laundry room in my basement, where they are breeding like crazy and like to hang out on the wooden ceiling there. I hang a lot of my laundry there so I am extremely concerned about this matter, as well as the fact that they freak me out! Is there a solution to get rid of spiders (or at the very least, minimize them)? I know I can use some kind of bug spray (which I perceive to be a "band-aid" solution anyway) but since I hang my laundry there (and don't fancy my laundry to smell like bug spray), I would appreciate any solutions, thanks! Please note that I know some of you may suggest that I just use my dryer so that I can avoid dealing with the spiders, but I don't use my dryer for some of my clothes. Even if I didn't hang my clothes in the laundry room, I would still appreciate a method to get rid of the spiders there. Thanks again!

    Unless you know for a fact you have venomous spiders leave them be. They're eating the flies and mosquitoes which harbour diseases and spread bacteria and they are the things we all should be afraid of. If it really gets over the odds just occasionally sweep the webs away with a broom, Do not poison them. They are an essential part of the eco system.Any bird or lizard who eats a poisoned spider will also die. I live in Australia where we have more venomous spiders than anywhere in the world. I have a bushland block teeming with spiders two kids and two d-gs and no one has ever been bitten here. A preventative measure would be to paint the ceiling white as they do not like to hang out on white surfaces too much...it makes them obvious to predators.

Eat them, I've tried deep frying them and they are sooo gooooooooood :D

Simple and easy just buy insect repelent and spray it all around the house cauck cracks and knock down all the spider webs and u should be good my house has a spider every once in a great while bec I spray the whole house and don't go in the house for a few hours to let it settle and as long as u don't have cracks for the bugs to get in the insect repelent should last for about a year till u have to spray again

When I lived in Eastern New Mexico, we had a big spider issue. I found that using Ortho Max home defense works pretty well. You spray it outside the perimeter of the house, and that keeps a lot of them away. I also sprayed it on the inside of my closets (you can do the rest of your house, but I have animals and didn't want them licking it up). Not a strong smell with this stuff either and it dries quick and last about 3 months I believe? They say spray once every 6 months, but I do it more often than that. That should cut down your spider issue.
