What are some commercial uses of Red Algae?

How do I get rid of stubborn pool algae in a pool which uses Baquacil?

  • I have not been able to get the water in my pool clean and clear since we opened it over a month ago. We use Baquacil, with a DE filter, and the water has been green, cloudy, and there is a fuzzy looking algae on the sides of the pool. HELP!!

  • Answer:

Typically the problem is that the algae is growing in the grids inside the DE filter. You need to take out the grids, disassemble them, scrub them thoroughly and hose them down. Your local pool store that sells Baquacil should be able to recommend a proper cleaning solution. It is also a good practice to have the grids taken to the pool store for them to get an acid bath every few years (Call first. Not all stores offer it). This will also kill the algae. Keep in mind that over time Baquacil clogs up the pores, so the acid bath will also clean out the pores in the fabric on the grids. When the pores clog up the water can't get through, it doesn't filter properly and it puts added strain on the fabric causing it to rip or tear.
