How To Get Water Bill Online?

Can somebody on a water meter get rid of it and bill normally?

  • My friend has just bought a house and didn't know it was on a water meter. She's been quoted £920 a year rather than around £280 for standard billing. Is there any way she can get rid of the meter and pay a monthly fee? She has three very young children (one is a small baby) and is beside herself with worry as she can't afford the bills. She isn't on benefits so can't make any kind of claims for help.

    I'm afraid she's stuck with the water meter but the cost doesn't seem right to me. Maybe it also includes the sewerage charge which is usually calculated as being the same as the amount of water used. Even so it is still high. If you go to U Switch website they have a calculator to give you an estimate based on your use not the previous owners. So you put in number of people, how many baths, how many showers, how many times flush toilet, how many times use washing machine, how many times dishwasher in a week and it works out roughly what you should pay. If your friend does this maybe it will be lower and put her mind at rest - I hope so.

Hi I am sorry but she will be stuck with the meter, here we get our water from Severn Trent, if you request a meter you can within 12 months ask to be returned to no metered billing, but if the property is already metered you will be stuck with it. £520 seem a lot, I pay around £190 a year, perhaps this large estimate is based on the previous occupier. From experience metered water is cheaper Regards John

She could explain the situation to the water company,but i think if the meter has been there for a year or more it cant be removed,she may have a case against the house seller for not telling her about the meter
