How much will it cost to install cable outlets?

  • I was wondering how much it would cost to have an electrician install two cable outlets in the upstairs bedrooms (1 in each room)? We have Time Warner and they told us that they don't do that type of service in our area yet so we have to hire an electrician. Being as that we have H.O.A., we can't run the cord to the window on the outside (as suggested by our Time Warner Customer Service Rep). I was looking into changing our service to AT&T U-verse and was told that the install for each room would be 75 for an outlet and wall drop. Is that even a good price? How much time it should the installation take? How much will it cost us?

    I would guess about $25-$30 per outlet (that's what the cable companies charge, anyway). It takes anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour per outlet, depending on where the cable has to be run from.

I have to be the devils advocate here. All the items you need to do this job are available at WalMart, Lowe's, Home Depot or Radio Shack - two plates, two maybe three splittlers and two sections of wire. Take a hard look at your home -- how do you think someone is going to run that wiring from the first set to the second and third. Remember, the guy you call in has never seen your home, so with a little planning on yourself, and advice from say Radio Shack you can probably do this yourself. The guy who does you call - he might be doing it for the first time....ugh, so try DIY'ing it - not a big deal. Good luck.
