How to get rid of black mold?

  • We are thinking of buying a new house, its a good house except for the basement has black mold on some of the walls. It's also on the floors a little bit too in the basement. The upstairs is good, no mold for what i see. The walls are cement, and wood. How do I get rid of the mold? Should i just demolish the whole basement so then we have an open basement. Would that get rid of all the mold too? How do i clean the mold off too? And if i do demolish it then i still have to clean or disinfect it right?

    You need to hire specialists to remove mold. I personally would not buy the home because if it was wet before it will be a problem in the future.The cost to fix the moisture problem may get very spendy, you may end up digging around the entire basement and waterproofing it all.

Mold comes from moisture. If you have a lot of it, you get mold. Use bleach to get it off, but mold always comes back. I lived in an apartment that had lots of mold. they used bleach and painted it, but it always came back. I have COPD and was always having trouble breathing. I'm glad to say that I'm finally out of there and am breathing a lot better. Jean

Please don't demolish the basement. What you can do is buy a product called tilex mold and mildew remover which says on the bottle to kill 99.9% of household mold and mildew. This according to consumer reports is better than anything you can use. After I cleaned it good I would buy a good dehumidifier and let it run in the basement till I got it around 45 or 50. You may have to clean the walls one more time but you will get there. This happen to me when I bought my home a few years ago and no mold ever since.
