How old is the drainage system in mumbai?

Has anyone built thier own DIY sump pump / sub-grade drainage system?

  • BACKGROUND: I recently discovered that I have some foundation leaks / cracks / sinking footer issues my circa 1950's-ish concrete block foundation house, which came to light 4 months after purchasing the house when the dry-lok cover up job wore off revealing all the zigzag fractures in the wall(s). BTW Around month 2 of ownership, I created a drainage system using french/surface drains and gutter downspout tie-ins which dumps to storm drain and heavy re-grading to direct h2o into the drains / away from house. This solved vast majority of water on basement floor. PROBLEM SYMPTOMS: zigzag cracks along the block mortar joints along 1 of 4 foundation walls, efflorescence appearing along the cracks, small water leak appears on basement floor originating from where wall meets floor in 1 specific place, mortar crack gaps are much larger in the corner where 2 walls meet. QUESTION: Has anyone ever done a DIY sump pump / sub-grade drainage project???? A relative claims he did by hammering a hole through his basement floor approx. 3 ft deep, and setting up a sump pump in the hole that dumped away from house appropriately, no connecting to footer drains or anything. Has anyone done anything like this? Anyone done something similar? Anyone had luck with any other DIY setup? I am willing to go all out and take the proper measures to solve this issue... (i.e. dig 3ft wide cavity on outside foundation wall down below the footer, pressure wash / sandblast exterior foundation wall, inject epoxy into cracks, re-apply exterior foundation sealer, back-fill the hole, and regrade)... but I would MUCH prefer and MIGHT actually be able to afford to do something a little bit simpler if possible.

  • Answer:

why not just a sump pump to eject the water,,,,french drain is ok , but i would not connect gutters to it, positive drainage away from the house may also solve your woes.... if the water falls/runs away, it has to migrate thru the soil to enter your basement. may be the cheapest fix!
