Has anybody used a good deck paint that lives up to the maker's durability claims?
-
I've tried Bear, Cabot's and others and also am using a top rated primer and still find that products claiming 8-12 years durability or more are barely lasting one year on horizontal surfaces. The deck does not get much use either. Live in the midwest climate.

Answer:
Go with a stain, rather than a paint. Sherwin-Williams makes some great deck products. First, strip off all of the old finish with Stain and Sealer Remover. Next, use Revive to clean the deck and neutralize the remover. Follow that with one of their semi transparent or solid stains. Semi is available in either oil or water based formulas, while the solid is available in water based only. These penetrate into the wood and last much longer than paint. Hope this helps.
