Where can I get a long chain link?

How can I secure my chain link fence so my dogs can't get out?

  • Its a large chain link fence with something that might be called "privacy slats" There is one barely standing Fence and two open spaces. I've got a 7 month old Chihuahua and a 9 year old lhasa poo that must be contained. not that I mean to leave them in the yard alone, but its a heavily trafficked area with a lot of other large domestic neighbor's. unfortunetly, its not my home and I am definitely not handy or in a position to pay for a huge project, I'd just like to keep my pets safe. Any info would help!

    Go to Lowes and buy some fence material ( less than 20 dollars). Cut the fencing to fit over the hole and wire it in place.

I understand your concern. We had a much larger dog. She always found a way to get out even tho we had a chain link fence with NO holes in it (got run over by a truck one night). May I suggest what we do now with our new dog: We bought a plastic coated steel cable (about 20' long) and anchored one end to the back yard wall of the house. The other end has a metal "slide clip" on the end of it. When leaving the pooch out, we attach the clip to the dog's collar and let him run around. No matter what you do to the fence (unless you build a wall), they will eventually find a way to get out or get stuck trying. The cable lets them run around but won't let them get out. You can get them at a pet store or (even cheaper) at a store like Home Depot. Just tell them what you want it for. Good luck with the Chihuahua. We had one that was a good friend to the kids and everything and actually lived to be 18 years old!!! GL
