Its a common house rodent reliant on crumbs left on the floor to eat. You say its humane to catch it in a trap. Its inhumane to put it in an environment its not used too, like a forrest.

Put it outside! It can fulfill one of it's many ecological actions, by becoming food for something else

Put it outside. It may be able to find shelter. You can't keep it in the trap because it will die in there.
