What is the best way to clean a leather wallet?

How do i clean my leather wallet or is it doomed???

  • my little brother had an old leather wallet sitting on his desk next to a Galileo thermometer and when i was talking to him i turned around and knocked down the thermometer and the glass broke and fluid that smells like kerosene drenched the wallet and now he demands i give him $40, $20 for the thermometer but also $20 for the wallet and my parents are agreeing with him. The wallet is now dark where the fluid touched it and light where it did not and smells, can anybody give me a way to fix this, is was thinking of dying the leather a darker color to match the fluid but i don't know where to begin on how to do that, have any ideas?????

  • Answer:

Dying the leather isn't going to get rid of the smell. Go to a shoe store and ask them about leather cleaners or saddle soap for cleaning leather shoes. They may work for the wallet, but not knowing what the liquid that was spilled on it was, it's hard to say if you'll be able to get it clean. It might end up being easier just to replace it.
