How to fix Camaro's roof?

Any ideas on a cheap temporary fix for a roof leak in the valley of my roof?

  • i can see the crack in the seam on the roof

  • Answer:

Lots of Blackjack Tar. You can buy it in tube (like caulk tubes) at any hardware store (usually in the roofing section). It won't fix the problem - but it will be a good temporary solution.

is there flashing? I know it won't be cheap but in the long run might save money....have af few folks come out for estimates. Also try the Do-It-Yourself websites *DIY, HGTV, Discovery Home, etc.* Or go to Home Depot or Lowe's for some ideas. It might just be you need to tear some of the shingles off the roof and tar it and replace the paper and the shingles. Good luck!

It depends, but anything you do short of fixing it properly is not going to last very long. Roofs (except standing metal seam) are always done from the bottom up, so the successive layers overlap. If it's a shingle roof, see if you can carefully pry the two shingles above up to the point where you can see the nails. Rip out the damaged shingle, pull the nails, and replace the shingle. If it's a metal channel you could try to slice it above the crack and slip another piece of metal under the slice and then over the crack, but it's still going to leak a little.

buy a roll of "FLASHBAND". it comes on a roll in different widths, peal of backing and stick over problem area. Cures a multitude of problems and is totaly weather resistent. Ultimitly replace the valley before it rots the timber underneath. or you'll have a major problem and expence!

You can use a roof repair tar product that can be purchased in any home supply center. apply like paint and let it dry. try to keep it smooth so it doesnt accumulate debris. this is only temporary and cheap, like you said. that valley made of flshing will need to be properly replaced.

Oh, don't go cheap on your roof. Imagine the capacity for water damage that comes with a bad roof. It's nice outside this time of year, perfect time to have it re-roofed. If you need to patch it to save for a couple months, I guess tar would be good, it would get into the crack and seal it. But don't wait too long, winter comes fast when you procrastinate about a roof job.

go buy a gallon of quick tar - make sure you also buy a set of yellow kitchen gloves and a disposable putty knife - that stuff doesn't come off get up there and fill it in - after you have blown all the debris out of the cracks (anouther use for a lawn bolwer, other then the lawn) jewells 29 months and still here
