Answer:
Like it is in the ground so you have to dig a hole to put it in, then you add pool filters etc.

They work great. However; one word of warning, leaks can cause the house foundation to move and damage can be very extensive, even totally destroy the value of the house. Hotels and large apartment complexes have pools leak checks yearly, I think.

Try reading this article on swimming pools at wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimming_pool - 94k - Cached I can tell you this much, they work with a lot of money and daily work on the owner's part. Pools, whether in-ground or out-ground, whether used once a week or every day...must be tested every day to judge the chemical balances in the water, they must have those chemicals adjusted, often on a daily basis, the water must be filtered for X number of hours daily and the walls and floor must be cleaned almost daily to remain safe for use. Water must be replaced as it evaporates and depending on if the pool is heated, it's use is limited to periods of time when the outside temps are within a certain range. Think of it as a HUGE pet in your back ground that you can't take along on vacation but that must still be cared for...so you'll need a pool service for whenever you can't care for your pool. Then there are the other dafety issues. Your pool must be fenced and kept locked at all times against any straying children or teens who may be tempted to use your pool when you are not around. If an accident happens and it is proved your pool was not properly fenced or kept locked up...you will be held responsible. The pool walls or liners, it's assortment of filters and other equipment need regular repairs and replacement parts. Our friend's pool is barely two years old and they have had to close it down twice this year for repairs. But such repairs are not only to protect the pool and keep it safe to use, but to protect your house and surrounding buildings and properties. Never install one on or in ground that sits higher then your home or anyone elses. That's just asking for trouble.Tiny leaks can quietly and slowly add up to huge expensive problems. The encrease in your home owner's insurance should be an indication of how expensive it can get.

They work quite well actually. At least mine do! In ground pools that are properly built and maintained will not leak and cause house structure problems if built to building codes. That is what they are for! Your pool will only really need to be cleaned once per week even if you are a clean freak. Those who are will probably want to clean their pools after a wind or rain storm. But pools do not take care of them selves and need tender human care to keep them running their best. You're welcome!!
