How to fix Guitar wiring?

How to fix a warped guitar BODY? (not neck)?

  • So I was given this old beat up Decca acoustic ( everyone told me it was antique status, but I call it a project guitar for good reasons). This thing has obviously seen better days, considering it was made in the '60s. Anyways, the BODY of the guitar, (not the neck, mind you) is definitely warped in the space between the sound hole and the bridge of the guitar. I would like to attempt to straighten this somehow, because I feel it is effecting the overall sound of the guitar as well as the tuning. When I say tuning, I mean the 12th and 13th fret buzz and play the same note, which is crap, but I can handle it considering that most songs I play on it are chord songs and even the ones that aren't chords don't really go that high, even on solos. Is this possible to fix, or is this quite frankly not worth the trouble at all? Thanks

usually toast at that point. get a mirror. look on the underside/inside. if the wood is split there, you're done. if it's not split, you have nothing to lose, if you have long enough clamps and elmers wood glue, affixing a wooden stringer under there might do it. maybe two. but it will deaden the sound. protect the rosetta around the sound hole and face. first, take a lot of time pressing the warp-age out. with clamps and a thick-unbendable, flat piece of wood *w/o* glue initially. inside and out on the face. 1/4" ply wood is good. or a thin piece of metal (rounded corners). to help prevent cracking/splitting. felt works good as an insulator. under the pieces of metal or wood on the face. days/weeks+++ of patients. tightening little at a time. then you have to somehow retain that tension and slip the stringers in there and affix. but you could spend the same amount of time straightening it as it took to warp. and still not be successful. but i have to say, it generally doesn't work w/o cracking/splitting. especially if you go to fast. you just never know. pressure and time is the key to elmers success. a git/music store may have a better manageable glue. kinda wordy, sorry. good luck.

Passed the use-by date I'm afraid. Since it cost you nothing see if the bridge can be redesigned to lower it. Use a chisel! Or if you are a fussy person you may be able to do a good job. In time.
