How much does it cost to replace the springs in a garage door?

What is the average cost of replacing a garage door opener?

• The gear(s) in my garage door opener is worn and i had a repair man come check it. He said he cant replace just the gears because the opener is the old kind that doesn't have a sensor and would have to replace the door opener (as per some code) for $310. Why cant i just replace the gear? And how much does a garage opener installation average? I just had the torsion spring replaced for $160 so i'm trying to be frugal.

  The law was past any opener manufactured after Sept 92 had to be equipped with the photo sensors. We could only repair the older one until the parts where no longer available. So, if they won't sell us parts to fix them they really don't give the home owner any choice. The sensors are a great safety device. If you have small animals or kids and if they would run under the door when it is closing it will stop and open all the way back up without touching anything, where before the door had to hit something before it would reverse - if it did! The price you got is a fair price installed. make sure they service your door (for free) while they are there.
