How much water does it take to completely disable a refrigerant system?

What steps do I need to take to maintain my well and water softening system?

  • Recently moved onto a rural property with a well. The well draws water out of the ground and stores it in an above-ground 2k gallon container. There is a water softener system in the loop. Not sure if the water is treated before going to the reservoir or going to the house. The water softener system consists of a metal cylinder (has meter) and black reservoir (about 80 gallons, for salt?) Anyway, what do I need to do to keep this properly maintained (and tested?) Do I chlorinate my above-ground 2k gallon reservoir? If so, how much and how often? Do companies offer maintenance contracts for these systems? TIA.

  • Answer:

The maintenance you need will vary greatly, based upon the deposits in the water. You should have the water tested for content. The lab will let you know how much iron and other substances are present. That's how you'll know what kind of softener, if any, you need. You'll also know what kind of filtration is in order. Experience will teach you the duration of the elements. There are likely several maintenance firms near you.
