How much will a new range fan cost to have installed?
-
Our old hood range fan/light thing caught on fire! How much will it cost to have a new hood installed? The electrical seems to be fine-off for now! :( But obviously I would like a new one instead of this burned one. How much should I have set aside to have someone else install one?

Answer:
It's a pretty straight forward installation. I would agree $50 sounds about right.

These are easy to install yourself. Start pulling off the fan covers and any other covers you may see until you find 4 screws. These are sometimes key way slotted. Loosen or remove the screws and the complete until will drop. Disconnect the power and you are ready to swap out the unit. Make sure you switch off the breaker prior to starting the removal! Pretty simple huh? If you cannot do this yourself I suggest going to a few building stores to find to hood you want and check the price of these. Some home improvement stores will also install and can give you a quote to do this. A local handyman should also be able to install the new fan easily and save you quite a bit over the cost of a electrical contractor. The cost to do this will depend on the type of fan purchased and where you are located. I would imagine a handyman will charge at least $50.00 or as much as $100.00 to take care of this for you. My suggestion is to get the most CFM you can (this is the amount of air the fan will move) as the more air moved the better, and to also ask how noisy the fan is as some high CFM fans are just too loud. I hope this helps!

I will agree with the previous poster you should be able to find a local small contractor or handyman to replace it for around $50 IF the electric wire is good, and IF it is a non-vented fan, meaning it isn't hooked up to duct work leaving the room/house. A ductless stove hood runs between $50 and $100 for a decent hood, so budget $200 for everything if you meet my previous guidelines. Add another $50-75 id there is duct work.

You should be able to find somone on CraigsList to do it for $50, assuming no electric work needs to be done.
