The bottom of my fridge is always full of water. ?

  • My freezer in my fridge is leaking water. I t seems to happen when the defrost kicks in. the water ends up in the bottom of my fridge under the vegetable trays. Can someone please let me know how I can fix this.

Chances are what the problem is is there is ice built up inside your freezer compartment across the drain. You will have to take the panels off of the inside of the freezer to get to the drain. At that point you have two options. Either use a hair dryer to melt the ice (which takes longer but is usually cleaner) or if any ice has melted enough you can pull it out of the bottom you can pour hot water (warm or hot from the tap, not boiling) directly on the drain hole in the back of the freezer to melt it. I usually use the hot water method, but keep a wet vac on hand in case you spill water or it doesn't melt through in a couple minutes. If it doesn't melt through the ice plug in a few minutes, vacuum out the cool water and pour more hot water on the ice. Eventually it should melt through and drain. Also try to look in the hole and make sure that a pea hasn't gotten lodged in the drain. They are just large enough to go in the drain and plug it.

This is normal, except that the water is supposed to go down through a small plug on the floor of the refrigerator. Take out the vegetable trays and make sure that the plug area is clean. You may have to poke a pipe cleaner down through it to clear it. The water is supposed to go into a tray that is under the refrigerator where it evaporates due to the heat from the motor of the refrigerator

Cornflake is right. If you don't want to defrost it yourself, you can just turn it "OFF" for a day. It will defrost itself. Of course if you don't have a lot of food or have a spare fridge to store it. Otherwise follow the instructions of Cornflake!
