How long should you use an oil burner?

Can I use kerosene in my oil burner?

  • If I run out of oil can I temporarily use kerosene until I get an oil delivery? I understand kersone is more refined than #2 home heating oil so I think it should work.

  • Answer:

Yes, this will work fine and burns much cleaner. I even add Kerosene to my outside/above ground tank if it gets real cold. It helps keep the fuel line from freezing up. Ref: http://www.clarkgasandoil.com/faqs.html#oil6

Yep, propane works too. If you want to get really warm, use some depleted uranium.

I don't know--this is pretty iffy. Kerosene is very volatile, like gasoline and can explode very easily. It fires fast, and hot. Not slow and long, like heating oil. Please be careful!

Only if you want to take the chance of burning down your house....

Sewer Gas

go ahead and use it if you have it, it's just better than you need. my oil company uses diesel fuel for emergency's, so you could put some of that in too. the service tech told me using kero would actually be good for the burner nozzle, because it burns so clean. good luck and stay warm!!
