How to switch between two tables?

Deciphering the wiring on a two way switch light?

  • Installed new swithces. One switch box has a red, black and white wires. The other switch box has three black and one white wire. Switch one will turn the light on but when turned off at switch two, switch one can't turn it back on again and vice versa.

  • Answer:

If I understand correctly, you've got three wires at the first switch and four at the next. Here is a circuit diagram and explanation of the wiring involved= http://www.wiringhelp.com/electrical/electrical-how-to/how-to-wire-a-4-way-switch.html You'll need a continuity tester and a long piece of wire to identify the different conductors. Turn of the power first, of course. Also, if you've got a switch with four wires, there should be at least one more switch with three wires coming to it. A switch with three non-grounded conductors is a 3-way, four = a 4-way.
