No water going in washing machine, whats wrong with it?

  • ever since i moved into my flat, there's been something wrong with my washing machine. I try turning it on, and only a little water will go into the drum. So I got the plumber round, and he said it was a valve in the cold water pipe, he then went away, came back and fixed that, and then no water whatsoever going into my machine, and now he's saying that it's my washing machine! It worked fine in my old house, so what else could be wrong with it, I don't have the money to get someone out to look at my machine to then say it's the flat plumbing! and i can't get a different plumber in, because my place is rented so it'll be breaking my contract :( Any ideas?

    First check that both feed pipes are sending water to your machine, easy way to check is use a bucket, hold the hose one at a time, turn on the valve slowly and if water is comming out then water is getting to your machine. As your machine was working fine before, and if it is hot and cold feed at least one should work. Check the easiest bits first, who connected it up for you? plumber or diy guy? Turn off both valves and unscrew them from machine end, check the little plastic filters where the hoses connect 2 machine, if they are fine reconnect. Now something silly, is your machine turning on? does it light up? if not check fuse if still not sure switch machine on at mains, and turn on the machine itself, now rotate the timer slowly, does anything happen? if not make sure fuse is ok, or replug into another socket, still not working?open and close your machines door with all switched on, if you get a kick out of the machine then it is the door switch that is either faulty or the switch or door needing adjusted. now re the switch or door, the reason that it could be either is because it was ok at your old home but not working at your new home, who ever moved your machine could have lifted it via the door on one side, hence knocking the door and or switch out of alignment. It is not a big job, first just keep on opening and closing door with machine all powered up and push the door on the opposite side where it hinges, this is where the door switch is situated behind doo rubber, keep pushing door all over and if switch or door is out of bonk due to someone lifting machine via door, then hopefully you should be able to hear the machine fire up slightly. If it does then you need to peel back the door rubber to access the switch, make sure its tight and door as well. If a machine doesnt fire up for any reason then the water wont go into machine as they have electric water valves. Dont forget to check that the water valves are turned on at the water pipe end. Disconnect the pipes from the washing machine, then check open the pipe valve (so it lets water through) then if water does come through, then its not the water pipe, so its your washing machine, and also check the filter in the front of your washing machine, also check that the connections are properly tight, and that there are no leackages, or any blockages in the connection....

turn off the water to your washing machine. Blue and red valves(follow the pipes from your machine to do this. undo the pipes from the machine, put them in a bucket. turn on the valves again for 30 secs. if you have a reasonable amount of water in the bucket, then the problem is with your washing machine. if you only get a little water, phone up the plumber and tell him he is a ****.

I know you said you had a plumber in to check the pipes, but check them anyway, as others have mentioned, by disconnecting the hoses from the washing machine and turning on the water briefly. If that isn't the problem, then the solution is the valve in the washing machine. This valve is electric and can sometimes get stuck in the closed position. There is a panel on the back of the washing machine that, when removed, allows access to the valve. This part is inexpensive and can be obtained from most appliance parts stores. The repair involves disconnecting the wires from the valve and removing the 2 or 3 screws that hold the valve in place. Installation is simply the reverse of removal. This easy repair can save you a bundle over the cost of replacing your washing machine. If you attempt this repair, be sure to disconnect the electricity by unplugging the washing machine from the electrical outlet before you begin.

IN each pipe there is a valve, open and shut,if you look at the pipes at a T joint there should be what looks like a screw head, that you could put a screw driver in and turn, you use it to turn off water on that pipe, turn it one way the water turns off, turn it the other way, the water turns off, it sounds as though he has turned it the wrong way,take a look and see, it might help, if he has closed the valve, get your money back.

from what you are saying, you have moved the machine...and. The actual water levels in the machine are detected by means of small pressure sensors on the ends of small galleries in a plastic moulding. For example, imagine a pressure switch on the top of an open bottomed pipe, now insert the bottom of the pipe into a bucket of water, and the pressure switch will detect an increase of pressure. What I feel has happened with your machine is that the end of one of these galleries has become blocked caused by moving the machine and 'gunge' that was there even befor you moved. If your dad is coming, get him to identify the filling valve and rig it directly to the mains so that your machine fills.Before you fill the machine get a bag of 'Washing Soda' (55 pence UK) put the lot in, fill the machine, and do a very hot wash. The soda will clear greasy gunge, and hopefully clear the small pipes....this may work....and your machine will be clean and clear.

its the screen, or it could be the hot and cold hoses, if you only have 1 faucet, use the cold.
