What is Green Power and how do I get it to my home?

Power surge hit our home blew a computer out. How do I get the power company to replace?

  • We had a bad storm on thursday morning that broke the nutral wire from the pole to our meter about 10 foot from the pole. It sent a strong power surge through our home and made a 15 watt night light glow to about 100 watts of light out put. It also knocked out my wifes computer tower. It won't even try to come on. So far nothing else in the home was damaged, at least so it seems for now. How do I get the power company to replace the computer sense it was their side of the electric grid that caused my problems?

  • Answer:

If you own your home have a whole house surge protector installed at your breaker box. The power company is not liable for your loss.

Legally the power company is not responsible. You should have either unplugged your computer with bad weather coming in or had a surge breaker on it.

Shut up Mike G!! Why do people like you always have to correct someones grammar or spelling mistakes? I can tell that you have no friends and no life because people don't want to be around someone who corrects every little misspelled word that someone does. Ignorant azz!! But to answer your question, I had the same thing happen to me and my husband. The power company told me to go through the motions of filing claims and crap. In the end, we winded kicking out more freaking money trying to get them to pay for it than what the television was worth ( in money). In the end, we STILL didnt get our television replaced. Just chalk it up as one of lifes little dumb intricacies, and leave it at that. I know it might be a hard thing to do, but sometimes, we have to bite the bullet.

You probly won't be able to get them to replace it. They would call it an"act of God," and ask you why you didn't have a surge protector.

Good luck!...but its unlikely they will ever give you a dime. they are not responsible for power surges.

good luck. should of had a surge protector. the don't cost much. should have one for all electronics, tv, phone, etc.

You would have to prove fault or neglect on their part. Storm damage is considered " an act of God"...It was'nt the power companies fault. Sorry, but that's why they sell surge protectors. A wise investment.

I doubt they would hold themselves responsible but you can try. By the way, a standard surge protector wouldn't have protected you from this sustained high voltage of 220V instead of the 110V the equipment is rated for. As someone said, it is probably just the power supply that is blown on your computer and they are quite easy to change and fairly inexpensive.

they aren't responsible, but you should call your homeowner's insurance company, or if you rent, you should have renters' insurance. if you don't, well, that's too bad for you then.

it may have been the power company to hold responsible, but if your computer is still under warranty you should be able to deal with them.
