Hot Water System Overflow POURING water out for three days!?
-
My hot water system started pouring hot water out of the overflow late Friday afternoon.. It's not just a light trickle, but a constant pour like a running kitchen tap.. It was still pouring out Saturday afternoon so I Googled possible causes and found a LOT of people saying it's the pressure relief valve.. So I messaged my mate who's a plumber and he said the same thing.. So being Monday today, I was able to go the plumbing shop and get a 'High Pressure Expansion Non-Return Valve'.. I just fitted it and an hour later it is still pouring a constant flow of water out.. It's a Saxon 550 280L system.. The manufacture date is October 2004 so it's not even 8 years old yet.. Any help or advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.. Ohhhh and on a different note, the hot water system was electrocuting me so I turned the power off and it was still electrocuting me and I touched a tap that has electrocuted me before and it TOO was electrocuting me EVEN with the power off, so I called another mate that said it sounds like an earth problem with my electricity and to call Ergon Energy (that's our energy provider).. Well, that's not related to my main question but just thought I'd include it.. Thanks again guys, I do appreciate all your responses.. :)

Answer:
The bottom line- Shut it down, switch it off, rip it out and get another make and model. Have it installed to spec.

You have installed the wrong Valve, the water pressure Valve does not have a non return valve. on boilers etc. You need a Water pressure relief valve for the model Boiler you have. If you use a non return valve, then it will not let out any excessive water pressure in your boiler. keep your water pressure at about 2 bar and no more.

It's not your pressure relief valve its your electric thermostat thats faulty & over heating the water causing it to escape from pressure valve & now its been a long time The electric element has burnt out too which may give you electrical shocks If your earthing system is not to code Replace thermostat & element & check earthing
. . . . . I'd also investigate the expansion tank: the air bladder may be shot (if it's the newer type) or the tank is waterlogged (old type without a bladder).
