How to program a garage door remote control?

  • I lost my garage door remote control. Unfortunately this is a condo and I do not have any other access to the insides of the garage to look at the garage door opener unit. Is there a way to open the garage door? Or is there locksmith service that anyone know of that can program a new remote control?

    Here are a few ideas. 1. If the garage door has windows in the top section, you can knock out a window and reach in and pull the red emergency release cord to open the door manually. 2. This is called a "vault garage" (one that has no other entry, except through the garage door itself). For these kinds of garages, it is standard practice in the garage door industry to put a "vault lock release" in the top section of the door, in the middle. It will be a small round key lock. Using the key provided (the condo association office should have this key), you can turn the lock and the cylinder will come out. On the inside end of the cylinder will be a cord that is attached to the red emergency release handle. You pull the cord to release the door. If the vault release lock is there and you don't have the key, you can drill it out (a locksmith can do this or they can pick it). 3. Call the condo association office to find out if they have a spare transmitter. They deserve a lot of criticism if they didn't keep an extra transmitter, and especially if they didn't order vault releases for every vault garage. If they don't know about vault releases, it means they hired a garage door installer who was not a professional (probably low bid) and didn't have enough training to warn them about this situation. They should pay for your repairs to have a professional garage door company come out and break the top section of the door (or saw a hole in it) in order to release the door. You have a solid case against them, the builder of the condos and the architect. I would be happy to write a letter to them for you if you message me.

Garage door openers have a manual button that will allow you to operate the garage door without the remote control. If there is a window you can climb through, another small door to the garage, or some way of getting inside the garage other than the car entrance, you can get a new remote programmed. If there is no other access, and you can't knock a hole in the wall to enter, you will have to take apart the panels on the car entrance. If you aren't able to do this, call the original installer and have him take it apart.

At US Federal MINIMUM wage, $11,000 is LESS than 30 hours per week.- he did not list his hours meaning he could have been working part time a few hours a day at both jobs dumb***!!!! $200,000 in student loan should make you a doctor or a lawyer.-COMPLETELY WRONG! He took out personal loans...but I'm guessing with your education background you have no idea what those are! The military does NOT have a waiting list.- I'm guessing you know this because you yourself are either 1. enlisted in the Navy or 2. Currently have tried to enlist in the Navy. Which I assume again is not the case. SO...take your own advice----->Your numbers are not remotely plausible. Try a lie that COULD be true.

You need physical access to the opener to put it in program mode. A locksmith CAN'T help. Without damaging either the opener or the door, you have a serious challenge.
