I have a bad smell like cat pee in my bathroom but dont have cats! what is it and how do I cure it?

You may have leaky pipes, or cats in the walls, or your neighbors down stairs may be nasty... LOL

There are a couple of possibilities. Try purchasing some Urine Gone (as seen on TV ads). IT comes with a black light that you use to see urine stains. Then you spray the area and the enzymes get rid of the urine. The product works well, I use it myself. I was surprised at how much urine showed up in the blacklight. I am a fastidious housekeeper and use both bleach and antibacterial bathroom cleaners. Under the blacklight, urine stains showed up all down the front of the toilet bowl which was freshly cleaned. After spraying the Urine Gone, the stains and odor was gone. The other possibility is that some sort of smelly glue or caulking was used in your bathroom. Perhaps it was the stuff they put down for the tiles, or the shower surround. Sometimes construction materials have a very acrid, ammonia type scent. The only thing to do about that is increase fresh air flow (open a window or use a fan to circulate the air) or use an air freshener to cover the smell. Also, you might want to look up in the suspended ceiling. There is the possibility that mice or rats have been up there and urinating.

men are infamous for missing the pot when urinating.and believe me urine can settle into tile.Try cleaning it with a bleach solution.If that doesn't help try spraying febreeze or put a couple of open boxes of baking soda in there.If all fails tell your landlord.It's his responsibility to fix it.

The answer may be strange, but bad overpowering smells as you have described suggest the presence of demons in the area.

try pouring 1 cup of bleach in the a/c drain pan (the large box thingy under most if not all of the a/c)give it a few days and do it again, if that doesn't help ask the mgmt

at one point, i noticed that our bathroom was smelling like cat pee. i finally figured out that it was the towels. apparently, sometimes when we leave our towels in the bathroom & they don't get dried out properly after using them after our showers, they tend to smell like cat pee. why? i have no idea. we are clean people. i have no explanation for why this happens. change your towels frequently & you won't have this problem.

Covering the drains will not help at all. All the drains could be treated with draino including the one in the floor (if you have one). I would also be suspicious of any bathmats you may have in there. I would also consider washing all the walls with sugar soap (make sure you rinse them if they're marble). There may be rats in the ceiling that could be urinating there, where there is moisture there's a good chance of rodents. Also check to see that the aircon is not leaking water in the ceiling. Once the drains have been flushed, pour a few drop of patchouli oil, or similar, down the sides of the floor drain, not into the water. Also investigate whether your little boy is peeing in the bathroom. I hope this helps.
