How does a pressure tank work for a water well system?
-
My pressure tank became empty. It's my understanding that it needs to have a certain amount of water in it to create pressure. How does that work, and how do you get the water in it?

Answer:
not sure what kind of system you have, but it sounds as if your pump is not working.see source

half way in the tank is a rubber plate like that flexes. on the top half is the pressurized air. on the bottom half is the water. a check valve above holds the water or a check valve in the well holds it. the air in the tank pushes the water out into your home. on some systems there is a bleed off to the tank. to take the air out where the water should be in the bottom half. a sensor on the tank (if you have it) should kick the pump on when needed depending on how many pressure tanks you have. this is what i do for a living.
