Why I get static for new appliances?

Why am I starting to get faint rust stains on my stainless steel appliances? How can I get rid of or prevent?

  • Answer:

There are different grades of stainless steel. The lower the grade, the more likely it is to rust. It's a myth that stainless steel doesn't rust. It does if it's low grade. To prevent rust, make sure that you always wipe water off of the surface when you clean them or anything gets spilled on them. As far as how to remove the rust, Magic Erasers work wonders for small, quick fixes. If you want something a little more powerful, use L.A.'s Totally Awesome De-greaser. You can buy it at Dollar General stores. It's a yellow liquid in a clear bottle with red writing on it. Also, you can buy stainless steel cleaners at any home improvement store that are supposed to protect your s.s. appliances. Personally, I think that the L.A.'s is much better! (and cheaper!) Hope this helps.

Rust stains on stainless steel is usually the result of something made from carbon steel coming in contact with it. Purchase a container of Barkeepers Friend stainless cleaner. many stores carry it. Very good product.
