Is a pumpkin still good if the seeds inside are rotten?

When is a good time to plant chili pepper, cucumber, bell pepper, tomato, and pumpkin seeds in Cambodia?

  • I recently brought the above listed seeds home to Cambodia from America. The seeds remained in my carry-on luggage and did not freeze under the plane. I am not a horticulturalist and cannot determine which time of year is best to plant these seeds. The planting instructions on the packets are for American seasons and weather conditions. Cambodia has these plants, but sadly, there is little common knowledge among the local people about such matters. In order to answer this question, I imagine one would have to understand the climatic and seasonal differences between America and Cambodia. Thank you sincerely, as you will help feed many people.

A good question is what season is it out there, do you have a greenhouse, and how much room do you have to plant? I'm a landscaping student in america, and I would love to help out, feel free to email me, it will allow me to answer much quicker. But as a basic, you will want to start the seeds after the last frost of winter, or if you have a greenhouse, you can start them at any time of the year. You'll want to plant the pepers about 2 feet apart, the cumcumbers about 3 feet apart, the tomatos can be as close as 1 foot, and the pumpkins you'll want to plant about 4 feet apart. If you have a chance, you'll want to start a compost pile, using grazing animals mamure, plants, and organic matter. Do not use meat, bones, paper, and not human, or other meat eaters refuse, this can damage the plants. If you mix the compost it will turn into a rich fertilizer, good for starting new plants in.

I've never been there but I would suspect that aftyer the monsoons or rainy season. Temperature doesn't seem like it would be a problem. Your cucumbers and tomotoes should do great if the humidty is like i suspect. Both these plants have little hairs on their stems that "suck" moisture out of the air. Start the tomatoe seeds in paper cups or something like that until they are 3 or 4 inches high and look healthy enough to transplant. For cucumbers, make a hill about 8 inches high, scoop a hole in the middle and put 5 seeds in, like the 5 on a dice. Place the hills about 2 feet apart. Plant pumpkins the same as cucumbers but spread the hills out about 6 feet apart, they really spread out. Also, for all these, plenty of sun and water regularly.

First you need to know what kind of climates that is needed to grow them here in America. All of these plant like dry, hot weather. America is a big country, these plants are common here in So. calif. Chili pepper, Mexico follow the instructions on the back of the label. I plant mine as soon as I feel we won't get a cold spell again. These vegetables do not like wet foggy climates. All need warm weather to do well, and pollinate their flowers. They must have a pollinator, or use must use a brush to do it for them. But the cucumbers on a trillis or fence. So they can achieve the maximum about of sun. If your humidity is tropical they will not do well. Hoyakins
