Where Is An Olive Garden In Ontario Canada?

Home Gardening in Canada - (Ontario & Montreal)?

  • SEE QUESTIONS BELOW: Hi Everyone. I live in the tropics where acres of land around our homes aint too hard to come by and the weather is favourable for many fruit trees and vegetables. I am wondering what the gardering scene in Montreal, Quebec and most parts of Ontario is like. (the greener areas) QUESTIONS: -What sorts of fruit trees/edible plants are in these areas? -I have read about "rooftop gardening" projects in Montreal. What sort of buildings/homes should I look for if i intend to take up this practice? (i know the roof is flat, i dunno the name of the design of that sort of building that you can access the roof) - Are there any communities in these warmer areas that offer more acres that on could have a regular yard garden? - Any resources you would like to share which will provide info about gardening in Canada?

  • Answer:

I live in northern Ontario a fair piece from Southern Ontario and Montreal, but I can tell you what you want to know. There are large cities but lots of small towns and rural areas too. You would be hard pressed to find a large lot in the big cities but in the towns and the country there are large lots and many gardens as well as farms and orchards. My son lives a 25 minute drive from Ottawa and has a 3 acre lot Apples. pears, plums, peaches, grapes, nectarines, cherries and apricots are grown in Ontario. Ontario has quite a few wineries where they make wine from grapes grown there We live where the temperature in winter often reaches -30 C in winter yet we have a large garden and grow apples strawberries and raspberries and most vegetables. We look for those varieties that have an early maturity date because our summers are a bit shorter than those further south I don't know much about roof top gardens but they are not gardens like you probably think of gardens. They are mainly container gardens of ornamental plants and flowers. I imagine there are regulations about how they are built and the structure would have to be strong
