Are pesticides deforming frogs?

Frog Problem... YES, I said PROBLEM!?

  • Last summer we had this same issue and it's back. We have a TON of frogs in our back yard. As far as I can tell, there is no standing water and we do not have wood piles or anything in the back (we do have gutters), yet each year the frogs come out and they are HUGE! My dog is not the smartest animal on the planet and last summer we caught him playing with a frog and he got sick for a while. He got better but the frogs are back. I don't want to limit how much time my dogs get to be outside but I can't get him to stop trying to eat the frogs. The frogs also manage to get INSIDE every once in a while without us noticing which is kind of gross. I don't want to kill them I just want them gone, any suggestions? Please only legitimate answers. I'm not irresponsible and I'm not a killer, just don't want to worry each time the dogs go outside. I heard about spraying citric acid? Does that work and is it safe for the dogs? We don't spray insecticides/pesticides because of the dogs.

  • Answer:

Are you sure these are frogs and not toads? I don't think you have to worry about them doing any serious damage to your pets. Why don't you try contacting your local wildlife & fisheries experts and get some advice there. Good luck and keep up your policy of not using insecticides or pesticides.

Please be careful with your dogs, some frogs can be poisonous to dogs. We have had that in Florida. Frogs usually return to where they were born to breed again each year. I do not understand where they are breeding if you do not have water. Is there water nearby. One friend caught 57 frogs and tossed them over the fence into the canal behind. Sorry I cannot be more help with getting rid of them. Just wanted to warn you. Good luck.

They are toads and not frogs. They eat tons of mosquitos, so be glad you have them. The dog has learned to stay away from them by now. He will try, taste them and stay away.
