Is Coffee and Coffee grounds really good for my garden?

Year old mushy coffee grounds, still okay for garden?

  • I got a bag of coffee grounds from starbucks a year ago but I only used half of the bag. The unused portion has been tied up and covered in my backyard for about a year. I looked at it recently and it's very mushy. Is it still safe to use in my garden? If it is, I want to mix it with my clay soil.

  • Answer:

They are excellent for pee spots on a lawn. I had a female dog and her pee spots were killing the lawn. A friend of mine mentioned the benefits of coffee grounds and tea grounds. So I tried it, sprinkling used coffee grounds on her pee spots and at first I didn't see any difference. I put more on, a little heavier this time and was surprised to see them "disappear". They work in the flower garden as well but I found the tea bag grounds worked remarkably better. I found it best to let the coffee grounds and tea bags dry first. It's also easier to get the tea grounds out of the bags when they are dry. I have many friends that saw the results over a year ago and they now do the same thing. It's a very good way of "giving back to the earth".
