How do I know what planting zone I am in?

Would like to know names of fast tall growing annual plants 12-15 feet plus *no vines*?

  • I have grown a number of tall annual plants before *CASTOR BEANS & OKRA* for example. I have grown both of these with good watering and fertilizing to reach heights of 12-15 feet tall or more. Does anyone know of any other plants that can grow to this size in one year? I am located in Western KY. and in zone 7 on planting maps. It's Hot and Humid all summer and they will be in full sun all day 12 hrs+ each day. The reason I am looking for some plants like these is that I lost a large tree shading my enclosed porch last fall and want something to shade the area for the next few seasons till a fast growing replacement tree provides some shade. Any ideals will be much appreciated and any hint's as to where to acquire the plant or seed would be a great help. Chuck C

    Not sure of the tallest height but Sunflowers are cool. I know they tall and grow fast.
