Can I grow an orchid from seed and how long would it take?

How long do sunflowers take to grow from seed?

  • My daughters class planted sunflower seeds, my daughter has a 4 inch plant now, when can i plant it in the ground, and how long do they take to grow?

  • Answer:

If the risk of frost has passed, then your sunflower plant could be planted outside - if it was grown indoors, I'd give it a couple of hours outdoors a day, over a week or so, to acclimatise to the weather. Prepare the hole well, potentially adding some well rotted compost into it, and keep your plant watered well, for a couple of weeks, whilst it's sending its roots out into the soil. It's a good idea to stake them too, as they can easily get wind damaged, and it's easier to insert the stake whilst the plants are small, without damaging their roots. The flowering and growth patterns depend on the type of sunflower - some are small bushy repeat flowerers others are taller and mainly have one or two flowers. The latter will likely start flowering in a couple of months onwards from now. Feed the plant regularly too, to give it a good opportunity to grow as large and healthily as possible. Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

It usually takes about 2 months after planting for a sunflower to bloom. I'd leave it in it's pot, put it out in the shade for a couple of days, then gradually give it more sun until it's in full sun. You can plant it then, or you can wait until it fills it's pot with roots. I wait because there are rabbits around here that eat sunflower seedlings, so the bigger they are the less likely they are to be bunny food. Make sure to keep them well watered after they're transplanted. Other than that, they will pretty much grow anywhere.

14 to 20 days after it has come up from dirt but it depends on what type you have a minature, regular, or giant. It would be best to go look on the package. It takes 70 to 90 days for a sunflower plant to mature.
