What is a climbing block?

Any ideas to block my neighbours from seeing into my garden without putting up a large fence?

  • My next door neighbours are always out partyin and drinking in their back garden. I cant sit in mine without them all staring at me. We have a 1m high mesh fence separating our gardens and i want to put something up to block them out! I dont want to put up a big fence because it would cause alot of agro, and i cant put up screening because she has loads of climbing plants weaving in and out of the mesh fence. I have bought climber plants to put on my side of the fence, but i want something better and quicker - preferably up to 6ft high. I was contemplating nailing some trellis to the fence so my plants can climb up high, but if anyone can think of something better then i'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Seems to me fencing, trellis could be your only choice. Bamboo screens look nice and would be a quick solution. Reed screens look nice too and you can build them yourself. That was a great answer about the gazebo for £20 because I've seen them but not sure if they have any side's ???

Do what i did and put up your own fence along side hers then she cant complain, just leave a gap of a few inches then everyones happy.

Fences and neighbours can be tricky. If you don't want to replace the fence then try attaching screening to the mesh fence. Check out the link below for ideas (I can't comment on the company I just did a search for examples). Just watch the high as there is a limit to how high you can go with a fence. I think its 6ft max, but check with your local planners. Trees and hedges have no limit, but your neighbour can still complain to the Council if they're not happy (but it will probably cost them).

put a wind break up with long poles then take it down when your not sitting in the garden I would not put a fence up as when your not in its your neighbour's who keep an eye on your house subconsciously thus not giving the burglars blind spots to hide in

Well if the mesh fence is the boundary line between you and next door. Then you can place anything you wish, right next to the fence, on the condition you do not move the boundary fence by bending it. I would seriously consider fencing though as it would completely block their view from yours.

Bambus, They are great for screening, they have a lovely rustling sound, and they are easily grown (can be a little invasive, so you'll have to cut them out of your lawn sometimes). However, whose fence is it. Remember that one side of the garden, the fence belongs to you. If it is your fence, so long as you provide her with notice so that you neighbour can rescue her plants, you can change the fence.
