How to establish grass?

How do I establish a GOOD lawn?

  • I live in New Hampshire, garden season here is from beginning of april to late October. My house is located among trees including pines, but there IS sufficient light to provide good lawn growth. I bought the house a year ago, but last year I had a lot of trouble establishing a good lawn: 1. The soil is not black, contains a lot of sand and dirt, and is probably very acidic, because there are many pines around. 2. I tried seeing aroundthe house, but the grass never really made it, or at least not very effectively. HOW DO I ESTABLISH A THICK, GREEN, AND HEALTHY LAWN (COST EFFECTIVELY)?

  • Answer:

Growing under pine trees is almost impossible, there are plants , vines, etc that like it under them. I planted columbine, autumns glory under mine. You may have to add some clay type soil and have the PH checked. Annual Rye to Perennial Rye may work if you have the right conditions and water. Pine needles have a natural herbicide in them, If you can do with out the pines get rid of them, for a nice yard and plant some other beautiful trees, 100's to choose from. Good luck!!

Fertilizer and water. With these two, you can grow grass on concrete.
