What are some good varieties of blooming plants and flowers for extremely wet areas?

  • I want some varieties that bloom a LOT,and that can thrive in swampy soil.I would also like to know some types of trees"other than willow"that will thrive in swampy areas.

  • Answer:

I don't know what zone you live, but here are some suggestions. Blooming plants... Irises (any variety) yellow jasmine swamp hibiscus Okay, the blooming part is tough, but I can help you a lot more on the trees. Water Oak (Quercus nigra) Red Maple (Acer rubrum) Sweetgum (Liquidamber styraciflua) Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichium) River Birch (Betula nigra) Sycamore (Platynus occidentalus) Blackgum (Nyssa sylvattica) Sweet Bay Magnolia To name a few. Good luck. Revision... Good point made on the sweetgum. You can buy the fruitless variety at your local garden center, just make sure you ask so they can point those out to you.

Bairdt50 has a pretty good selection. My only comment is to suggest that gum trees be avoided. The gum balls from this tree are a real pain in the neck. Louisiana iris are very well suited to a wet environment
