How to get dry seeds to start to sprout?

    get a jar and a paper towel plenty wet but not dripping water ... take said seeds put them between the layers of the wet towel ...put the jar on its side...place towel containing seeds inside laying it flat on the bottom (side of the jar)take the jar put it in a place that has no air flow and is dark as night check in three days rewet if needed check every two days after. should sprout in a week tranfer to rockwool or whatever medium you have

I have always been told to soak them over night in water. But I guess it depends on what kind of seed they are. The paper towel method works also but if the paper towel is too dry or too moist you will have a problem....

I use the paper towel in a ziplock method, keeping it no more than moist/damp to minimize the risk of rotting. Most seeds like bottom heat at around 85 degrees which will speed up the process ten fold. Cucumbers, cantaloupe, some squash might even be popping through by the third morning. It can take a month off some hot pepper seeds. Some harder seeds like pumpkin will benefit from the edge being scraped or sanded just a bit, which will make them pop open a little easier.
