What color paint would look best in a bedroom with cherry wood furniture?
-
My boyfriend and I bought a house and he has cherry wood bedroom furniture (2 dressers and 1 nightstand). I want to paint the walls a lighter color to reflect the light, and to offset the dark wood. Suggestions?

a light to medium taupe that leans to the green side would really work well with cherry furniture.

The first thing to remember about cherry wood is that it generally has a strong red undertone. So, you need to keep this in mind when picking a paint color. Think of the color wheel - RED orange YELLOW green BLUE purple and back to RED. The closer the colors are on the wheel, the stronger they make each other look. The farther away the colors are - red and green, blue and yellow - the more comfortable and generally classic, the combination. So, a cherry desk in a green room would be very classic and comfortably feeling. Put it in an orange room and you will have a much more modern feel. If you decide to go with a neutral like beige - take care that the beige you choose has red or blue undertones and not yellow, which will not flatter the grain of the wood at all. Good luck!

The nice thing about cherry furniture is the fact that it looks great against just about any color. We have extensive cherry furniture that we have accumulated over the years. It has been in rooms with white, light yellow, taupe, burgundy, light green, and cream colored walls. It looked great in all of those rooms. The bottom line, pick a color you like it is really not critical.

You can actually choose any color that suits you as the wood itself becomes a neutral, but I have a lot of cherry in my house including the floors and kitchen cabinets and I chose two coordinating sage colors. Looks beautiful.

I think that a light shade of olive green would look nice. It's Neutral enough to not be overpowering but not boring like beige.

Mint green or pale lilac I have cherry furniture and it looks rich with these colors. Little accents of color to brighten it up say in bedding
