I am putting a darts board up on a stud wall between 2 bedrooms and I want to do it properly and drill so it's solidm, but I want to know if you can buy raw plugs for stud walls as normal plugs won't have anything to grip to? Can you buy these or am I just dreaming??

Answer:
If you mean Plasterboard walls then theres a special plug for them. The plug itself is screwed into the plasterboard and the screw then holds as good as concrete http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/fixingtoplasterboard.htm

Yes you can buy these. B & Q etc sell them. They are designed so that as the screw goes in, the sides of the plug open away from each other into a diamond shape. This shape will not pull back through like a normal plug. There are also heavy duty metal versions available. Don't forget to use the correct size screw -it is important for the plug to do its job. On the packet it will tell you the screw size to use. Hope this helps.

There are a couple of designs I've seen for plasterboard. One is like a big fat screw that screws into the plaster. The other is like a clamp. You push it through a hole in the plasterboard and when you screw it tight a couple of legs pop out on springs and clamp onto the plasterboard. Neither is great for holding lots of weight, but should be fine for a dart board.

yes, all the "hardware" answers are correct 7 U can purchase at any hardware store or Walmart, Lowes, home Depot etc. But FIRST - your studs are likely 2X4's vertical and spaced 18" apart. You can tap your wall to locate them. Since you'd need a drill to properly install the hardware devices anyway....try a plan of installing screws INTO the studs themselves! If the location of studs doesn't suit you perfectly enough, you can utilize 1" X 2" boards ACROSS the studs HORIZONTALLY. Screw them into the studs, then attach your dart board to the Horizontal boards. good Luck, Greg

Yes, there are plugs you can buy which are suitable. Your DIY store can advise, and I would advise you buy a Heavy Duty type.
