What is the difference between Interior designers, and Interior decorators?

    In the most strict sense a Designer creates the design of whatever, and either has subs who craft the designers ideas, or offers them to a homeowner to find the end result. A decorator, by the most strict definition, MAY HAVE design knowledge, but they are the ones who usually do the hands on work. Both take some level of knowledge, experience, education, engineering, etc, but both can cross the defining lines of the words in their definitions. IE: I may be an architect, who can design your home. I may not be able, formally to execute my designs in the labor it takes,,,OR WANT TO... I may even make more dollars, just in the consulting. Rev. Designer make the plans and draws them up for the decorator to follow.

A designer does not partake in the dirty work. Basically they do all the planning and "designs" and the decorator, does the decorating.

Interior designers have a degree and are capable of making interior architectual plans. A decorator decorated the space and does not have the ability to design the walls, built-ins, etc.

An interior decorator usually just does the ornamental things, like pictures, plants, etc. Now people can misuse these terms and an interior decorator may refer to themselves as an interior designer.
