How many types of ceramic glazes are available?

What are the different types of glazes for ceramic tiles?

  • I've been digging all around the internet and can't find a straight answer to two things: 1) what different types of glazes are there? and 2) what properties, appearances, and applications do these types have?

  • Answer:

3 basic types of glazes.. Matte finish to provide some good slip resistance. Used in high traffic areas.. Give a dull look. Used mostly om stone looking tiles. Satin finish.. Semi shiny surface that also gives a slip resistance but usually not as much.. Can be used in light commercial areas and most all home areas. High gloss...Which is used in wall tiles a lot. Never a high glaze for flooring . You may see some granites and porcelains in a high polish used in commercial areas but these are not a glazed product. All tiles will have both an ohms rating ( scratch resistance ) and a slip resistance rating ( classification) These go 1/5. 1 being a high gloss wall tile, never to be used on a floor. 2 a matte finished, soft bodied tile that you can use in low traffic areas such as bath room floors and 3/4 which are home areas and light commercial to heavy traffic and commercial usage. There are some variables between all the glazes but this is a basic explanation.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
