What interesting things are they building in Italy?

Kennel building plans: What kind of flooring and things to consider?

  • When building a kennel what are some things that ewe would really need? Like easy to clean floors, air conditioning, indoor/outdoor runs...? What kind of flooring would be best for the kennels, grooming room, and office? What would ewe have in ewer dream kennel? Here's what eye want my future one to look like- http://www.flickr.com/photos/39338952@N06/3638934173/?rotated=1&cb=1245359468063 So, what are some things to consider? Oh, and in the future I want to be a trainer and boarder. And my own breeding dogs will be in the kennel some of the time. I will rotate who gets free run in the office, who is in the house, and who is in the kennels.

  • Answer:

Flooring - Tile, regular kitchen/bathroom type, for the non run areas. Concrete with gutters in the kennel area. Indoor/ outdoor runs are the best, part indoors with an easy to close to door in between the inside and outside of each run for cleaning and when not in use. A/C a must! It gets too humid, especially in a grooming area to go without it. You'll want a separate supply room, you'll need more than a closet. Grooming you'll want a room for bathing and drying that is separate form the tables.

i can only think of two appropriate flooring options for you, tile or concrete. it has to be washable for obvious reasons. you may want to consider air conditioning or central air if your going to be housing these animals in there year round.

I cannot answer what would be the absolute best, as I have never built a kennel before--though what you are describing sounds ideal. I can say that my dream kennel would look, on the outside, as a large, old-fashioned wooden barn (as I absolutely love those) that is fairly modern on the inside. Indoor kennel "stalls" made of wood, access to the outdoor "yard" by doors w/ dog doors in them (that can be locked) fencing on the outdoor "yard" that can be sectioned off or put together as required. A grooming area, yes, and plenty of storage space :) Though my 'kennel' wouldn't be for breeding purposes; I don't think I am ambitious enough to undertake breeding. I would prefer to have it as an area for rescue.

for the floor you would be best off going for concrete with slab heating, preferably with some guttering so it can be cleaned with a gurney. depending where you live your will probably only need ceiling fans for cooling. outdoor runs will still need some shelter, and you would not be expected to have customers dogs in your own house or office.
